Embracing Persian Cooking: A Community Initiative for Cultural Engagement
The world over, cooking isn’t just about preparing food – it’s a way to culture, heritage and community connection. At the FEE, an exciting initiative is brewing, blending the rich flavors of Persian cuisine with community-driven goals.
Supported by funding from Pfizer, FEE is looking to establish a Persian kitchen. The plan is simple yet impactful—distribute food for free or offer it for purchase, all while engaging the local community. The larger vision involves hosting cooking workshops as part of community learning projects. These sessions won’t just teach culinary skills but will also introduce the art of Persian cooking and help people to practice their English in a friendly and informal environment.
Filling bellies and sharing stories
The primary objective is not solely about serving delicious dishes. Two of the project’s directors hail from the Persian community and their aim is to share their rich heritage, especially through its cuisine. This isn’t just about filling bellies; it’s about sharing stories, traditions and the essence of Persian culture.
Supported by Pfizer, part of the project includes a series of training sessions geared towards identifying the gaps and needs in starting a community catering business. The team is planning a Community Catering Project that aims to generate income while ensuring the long-term sustainability and growth of the project. By opening up opportunities for volunteering and employment within their center, they aim to empower individuals with skills while fostering a sense of belonging and contribution within the community.
Spice up your meetings!
Moreover, the project is not limited to serving Persian food exclusively at workshops. Even for meetings or gatherings held in their rooms, the group offers the option to enjoy Persian cuisine upon request. This adds a flavorful twist to routine meetings, making the experience more culturally enriching.
The project is not just about serving meals; it’s a tapestry of flavours interwoven with community, culture, and sustainability. It’s a celebration of heritage, an opportunity for learning and a platform for creating a more vibrant, inclusive community in Derby.
